Matera to captain Argentina
Pablo Matera has been appointed as Argentinaâs new captain ahead of their four-match tour of Europe.
Coach Mario Ledesma confirmed that Matera will take over the reins from long-time skipper AgustÃn Creevy. The 25-year-old flank also replaced Creevy as Jaguares captain at the start of the season.
âI discussed with my staff who is best suited to lead Argentina going forward and Pablo kept being mentioned,â Ledesma said.
âPablo is a new voice and the best leader to take us where we want to go. He transmits his energy and intensity very well to the rest of the team. This is a good time for him to take the leadership role. He has already won 55 caps and is at the right age.
âHe reminds me of several captains that I knew, including Michael Hooper of Australia, in the way he has grown as a player.â
Argentina take on Ireland in Dublin on Saturday, followed by games against France, Scotland and the Barbarians.
